This article was very interesting to me because my sons and I fall squarely in the middle of the statistics given in the article. The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) did a study regarding how technology affects our sleep habits. Nearly 95% of the people interviewed in the study admitted to using some type of electronics before going to bed. More than one third of 13 – 18 year olds and 28% of young adults 19 - 29 are playing video games before going to bed and 46 – 64 year olds are the biggest offenders by watching TV every night before going to bed.
Cell phones, computers, video games and television are robbing us of approximately 50 hours less sleep a month than we were getting 10 years ago according to Dr. Charles Czeisler of Harvard Medical School and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He states our lack of sleep is because of our propensity to constantly stay in touch and that has had a negative impact on our work, mood, family, driving habits, sex lives and health. I agree with Dr. Czeisler in that technology should be removed from the bedroom well before bedtime. - Kim Bannister
